Literature Text

Today wasn’t a good day for Jalhan, he nearly ran over several mailboxes, a dog, and seven of his classmates before he finally turned off his car in the parking lot. He fixed, or more actually, rumpled his hair in the rearview mirror before stepping out of his car.

The sky was over cast, the gray blue clouds heavy with rain. The sun was dampened behind the thick layer of clouds and everything was muted and grey. It felt like a storm was on the way, but the clouds continued to blow over without releasing a drop.

Jalhan smiled to himself sarcastically. Today was a fabulous day to be very annoyed and that he was. The pulled his black jacket around himself tighter and hurried off to one of the schools’ back entrances.

Normally Jalhan used the front door, like almost everyone else who parked in the parking lot, but today he was operating under special circumstances. He was avoiding people, but he wasn’t just ignoring them like he usually does when he didn’t want to talk. They were looking for him, and he did not want to be found, yet he still had to go to school. He knew though that none of the people searching for him would get a chance to talk to him during most of his classes, so he just had to ovoid them until the first class started and then a few other times, he’d be in the clear all weekend.

He used one of the backdoor that led directly into the hallways than the common areas. He glanced around the entry way before walking in, then around the hallways before continuing to his locker. He thought he was in the clear.

“JALHAN!” A hand clamped down on Jalhan’s shoulder and he jumped so hard his entire body twitched.

He whirled around to see Kimony standing behind him. He didn’t know how he had managed to sneak up on him, or even how she knew he was here, since there was no reason for Kimony to even be in this part of this school.

She smiled her toothy grin and looked Jalhan up in down, taking in his winkled school t-shirt, stained jeans, and the hoodie, leather jacket combo he had instead of an actual winter coat. His long black hair was greasy and he had dark circles under his grey-blue eyes.

Kimony’s expression became one of sarcastic pity.

“Oh, Jalhan,” she said, shaking her head back and forth, her light pink hair flowing around her shoulders. “You have to stop worrying so much, it’s a killer on your complexion,” Kimony reached out a hand to cup Jalhan’s cheek, but he quickly batted it away.

“Touchy are we?” she asked with a mischievous smile.

Jalhan ignored the comment and continued down the hallway, he didn’t have any patience for Kimony’s antics today. She skipped down the hallway after him, her hair leaving a pink wave in her wake.

Mercifully, Jalhan arrived at his locker quite quickly. He hurried to switch out his books as they might find him at his locker, it was in the back hallways so it was more unlikely, but he still didn’t want to take any chances. Kimony continued to bounce around next to him, her pastel tan and cyan skirt rustling and appearing occasionally in his peripheral vision.

Jalhan took a break from abusively shoving his books in his locker to really look at her. Her straight hair went down to her waist and was very light as it swirled around her constantly. It was dyed a light pastel pink, which looked quite nice actually. Jalhan didn’t really care for dyed hair though. Her bangs fell down to her eyebrows, and partially obscured her eyes. Part of the hair on the right side of her head, near the front, just behind her bangs was significantly shorter. At one point it was shaved completely off, but now partially grown, it looked trashy. Kimony had the strangest sense of style he had ever encountered. Today she wore a cute girly skirt, and a Disturbed band t-shirt. She also had a cute bow necklace and a beat up pair of purple converse that were knee high and stained with brown substance that could be any number of things.

Jalhan stood up, picking up his books. He glanced around the hallway once more before hurrying to his first class, Kimony trailing behind him. He reached the classroom without being intercepted and a sense of relief washed over him. He went to open the door and with a shock he discovered that it was still locked. The teacher hadn’t shown up yet. A feeling of dread washed over him. They were going to find him for sure, why didn’t he pull over somewhere and wait for the tardy bell to ring before coming to school? He was such stickler; he hated himself for it sometimes.

“Oh, oh, oh, better hurry,” Kimony mumbled behind him. Jalhan glanced around to see her rifling through the garbage can. He didn’t even want to think about what she was doing in there.

Jalhan turned around and his stomach flipped over as he watched Everly round the corner.

“Whoopsies, too late now,” Kimony mumbled.

Everly’s face lit up when she saw Jalhan and she hurried over to talk to him.

Jalhan’s shoulders slumped. He had failed to avoid those idiots. At least he’d get it over with.

Everly hurried over to great Jalhan. She had very lukewarm feelings about him. He wasn’t very cute, but he was better looking and much more interesting than many of the other boys in her class. There were some down sides to him though; he was quiet and when he did speak he could be really rude sometimes. He had a sexy dark side, though. Well, it wasn’t really a side; he was always dark, brooding, and mysterious. That took away from the sexiness, severely. Jalhan wasn’t even on her list of possible boyfriends, well, he was, but it was more of “If everyone else dies we’ll be stuck together.”

Today Everly had another matter on her mind. She race walked down the hallway to an annoyed and unmoving Jalhan. Her lank brown hair fell to her shoulders and attacked static from her flowered chiffon shirt. The fabric of her forest green skinny jeans was tight around her thighs and rubbed unpleasantly when she moved her legs in large motions. The green tank top under her shirt was also a bit tight. She ignored it and focused on Jalhan.

He had an especially sour look on his face this morning. Behind him Kimony was doing something in the trash. Everly ignored her.

“Hey Jalhan, did you think about what I asked you about the other day, or are you still going to say that you’re thinking about it,” she asked, sticking out her bottom lip in what she hoped was a sarcastically pouty manner, but still cute. It was lost on Jalhan, as he wasn’t even looking at her.

“I’ve made a decision,” he announced very suddenly, turning away from her and striding down the hallway.

Everly struggled to keep up, for someone so sort, he sure could walk fast. “So you’ll help us?”

    He stopped suddenly, “Absolutely not.”

“Aww, come on!” Everly grabbed his free arm and put on what she hoped was a pleading look.

Jalhan didn’t even look at her; he purposefully avoided her eyes and stared at the wall.

“At least come to the meet up after school!”

    “No.”

Jalhan started to walk away and Everly pulled at his arm trying to stop him, but he was too stubborn and managed to get away. Everly watched Jalhan walk away with a sigh. If only she could get him to go along with her everything would be perfect, but perfection continued to be unattainable.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and this is the first part of the story I'm doing for it.

I still need a title for it, I can't title literature.

But... it will be about Jalhan and Kimony and maybe some creepy stuff. This will be fantasy, even if this chapter isn't heavy on it.

(I am not going to be able to finish this in a month....)
